Based on what has been read so far what other factors has made Okonkwo despise laziness and people doing poor work?

I think that he really doesn't want to be anything like his father who was lazy and unable to provide for his family. Onkonkwo kind of makes it his lifes mission not to be like him.

I beleive that what Okonkwo despised is his father because he was a failure, he doesn't despise lazyness itself. When Unoka, Okonkwo's father, grew up he was considered a failure and "people laughed at him because he was a loafer."(5)Okonkwo attempts to do is the oppisite of what his father was known for. By doing this Okonkwo hopes that people won't associate him with his father's failure by overshadowing it with his own success.

The main factor that made Onkonkwo hate laziness was his father being lazy and not providing for his family. That then made him feel that everything he has to do should be perfect and that he should always be working.

Okonkwo despises laziness because of his lazy father who never really worked hard and accomplished anything during his life.
His father owed people alot of money, and the burden of his father's debts were placed on to him and he was forced to work hard in order to pay them back.

I think Okonkwo despises laziness for the simple fact that his father was lazy and that made his Father to be seen as a failure. That is what mainly feeds Okonkwo's hatred towards laziness.
